Timing chains are not really an issue with the diminutive 1.5L Turbo. There are a host of other components that will fail and keep you busy long before you even consider it. Why not find a nice, non turbo, port injected, front wheel drive vehicle without stop / start that will almost assuredly...

Most likely it would serve no purpose on a direct injection engine.

-3 Charged air tube from the turbocharger->inter-cooler->throttle body.

What were they proposing as a repair? Keep in mind a dealerships business model does not allow for extensive diagnosis but geared more to fast turnaround and profit. Go get a second opinion.
