Auto parts chain stores will not be able to update the software. This is one of those instances going to the dealer and paying the price makes sense. Either that or a well equipped shop that has the GM Techline Connect capeability

0w20 Dexos1 generation 3 is what to use. Available almost everywhere. Should be a warranty visit to your dealers. Oh and there is no Low Oil light. That would be oil pressure and if that comes on ...you're done!

Don't know enough about theory of operation on the parking issue but I'd assume if there were no car / object for the system to use to find location it wouldn't operate so empty space = no position reference point. seems normal.
