I have a 2020 Equinox that I'm experiencing an odd issue with. When we come to a stop light the auto stop feature shuts the engine down, but when we let of the brake to take off, the engine restarts as it should, but the issue is that the speakers making a popping noise and the radio screen goes blank and seems to be rebooting.

Took to the dealer and they reprogrammed the radio, but it did not fix the issue. The car is out of warranty so I'd like to fix it myself, but am trying to determine which parts would fix it. Was hoping that someone here may have experienced the same issue and knows what the parts are that I need. I did a search, but didn't find a post with the exact same issue.

Thanks in advance for any help that can be shared.

0 parts required. Troubleshoot to find the cause of voltage drop on restart. The dealer isn't going to do this.

Is the battery original? Is there ANY signs of corrosion on any of the connections on and around the battery (there are a bunch).

If this is the original battery, it's about done for.

The other thing I would do is eliminate auto stop/start with a hood switch bypass harness. Cheap and easy. Like a few of us here..

As you've found out, auto stop/start does nothing good for the vehicle.

Thanks PoManNox for the input.

I replaced the battery in December of last year, but perhaps it's losing a cell or something. I'm going to test it because I do suspect that it might be the cause.

I did disconnect the hood switch to override the stop/start function and things are much better now. I'm going to definitely order the harness as I agree that the stop/start features is not beneficial.

Just checked the battery and it tested fine. Ordered the stop/start bypass harness so that should take care of things for now.

Did you do a load test and a crank test on it with a digital tester? I've had automotive batteries pass a load test, but fail during a crank test.

My tester only has the crank test and it checked out good according to the digital tester, assuming that I can trust the tester as it was just a relatively cheap tester that I picked up from Amazon. I'll have to investigate the load test process.

On edit: I remembered that I also have an analog load tester that I will check it with.

Did you ever figure out what was causing the popping? Ours does this when we first start it up (we disabled stop/start when we first got the car) and we would love to know where to look to fix it.

I've been having the same issue on start-up (2019 2.0L). Speaker pop and sometimes no blinker sound. Very annoying.
