Headlamps Randomly Turning On

Hi, everyone,

My husband just bought a 25 Equinox LT and we've noticed the headlamps randomly turn on throughout the day (while sitting in the garage, not running).

Our neighbor has a Lincoln Aviator that does the same thing, and Ford told him it's because the car is "receiving updates."

Is this what's going on with our Equinox? Has anyone else encountered this?? Thanks!

I don't think so it is receiving updates. You have an option set that will turn on the lights somewhat momentarily as long as you walk by it with the keys on you. Mine does that and it is annoying. I keep forget to look to see how to disable this "feature".

Thanks! We experimented a bit and it doesn't do it when the car is locked, only when it's unlocked. Which seems silly - why would we lock the car when it's in the garage? OH! And we didn't even have the keys on us! Just walking by it turned on the headlights!

Mine does that too. I'll go in the garage and walk by the Equinox to get to my other car and the 2025 Equinox will light up. It doesn't always happen, but it has happened even when I don't have my Equinox keys on me. I haven't figured out a pattern yet.

I have not noticed that part since I always have the keys on me. Could it be some anti-theft feature? If I remember when I get home, I will try it without the keys.

To turn off the approach lighting on a 2025 Chevy Equinox, you would typically need to access the vehicle's infotainment system and navigate to the settings menu where you can find the option to adjust "approach lighting" or "lighting settings" and then select "off.".
