I have a 2018 1.5l equinox. The engine stalled and was a little difficult to restart. After restarting it there was a engine noise that wasn't there

Tried to upload a video of noise but cannot. Sounds similiar to a lifter tick but is not.

i just recently had the same problem. The ticking noise was driving me crazy. it ended up being the vacuum pump for the brakes. It’s connected to the left side of the engine. The gears on the inside of the pump shattered and that is what was causing the ticking noise. also it caused my brakes to completely go out on me on the way home.

Thanks for the reply. I thought it was the vacuum pump to. But changed it with new. Noise still there. I removed the valve cover lifters are all ok too.

Just started the same problem yesterday, not vacuum pump like I hoped everything seems tight under valve cover, extreme blow by though, 120k noise came out of no where for no obvious reason. Started it this morning, 20 degrees out, sounds like a diesel running and a lot more distinct tick or knock. Long story but anyone get anywhere with this problem? Haven’t let it warm up today to see what it sounds like.

Did you have the valve cover and vacuum pump removed? You pretty much have to take the face plate off the vac pump to see if it's ok. If you had the cam over off, you should have cleaned the internal PCV ports in the head while you were in there. They can clog over time causing excess crankcase pressure. These engines do seem to have a lot of blowby at idle, even when all is good.

What is the history on your 2018? Oil changes every 5k miles or less?

When the computer says too, usually at 10% left,
It's going to vary based on your usage, but if I followed the oil life monitor on my 2021 1.5T down to 10%, that would be around 7000 miles on the oil. That's too long for a GDI turbo IMO.

When you had the cam cover off, did it look pretty clean in there? Cams were good? All rocker arms and rollers good?

Yes, finding out in other places it takes an engineer to fix it…..

Did the brakes act odd before the engine died? If do, good chance that the engine is trashed.

Well it finally threw on the CEL while it would barely get to moving and was shifting funny, came out of that but fuel mileage is terrible so hopefully get another place to look after my ol lady gets home from work.

If I looked P0324 up correctly, it's not an indication of engine knock. It's an indication of the knock sensor itself being faulty, or it's wiring. Something may have gotten bumped or moved when you removed the cam cover and vacuum pump.
