Same exact scenario has played out many times on my 2021 LT. The only way to clear it that's worked for me, is hit the max defrost button to the left, which diverts all air flow to the windshield and runs the a/c if ambient temps allow for it.

My guess for this would be an issue with the amplifier. There's a lot of videos of these failing on various GM models over the years. Here's a (crappy) video of the location of the amp on a 2019 Equinox.
