Hi Everyone,
Quick question, is it possible to remove the oil pan and re-seal it. Mine has a small oil drip that forms under it, when sitting. I’m worried that the job can’t be done, unless the trans is removed first.

I had to refer to a tear down video I saw on one of these 1.6 diesels awhile back. Fast forward to ~27min or so to see the oil pan. Based on those bolt holes on the bellhousing side, it does look like either the engine has to come out or the trans, or both! Note what looks like an oil pan gasket recessed into the block. That would not be fun to do laying on your back. Yikes.. Are you positive the oil leak isn't coming from somewhere up higher?

Yeah, she don’t look like she’ll come off easy. Not fully sure it’s the pan, but from what I can tell, I have oil that forms from most of the perimeter of the pan. Almost like it’s been off before and instead of a gasket, they used gray permatex. I’ll stare at it again, in another 1500 miles when I’m doing an oil change. By then it won’t be snowing out and I’ll see what a can or two of brake clean can tell me.

Thanks for the response. A while back, I was thinking of doing a tensioner upgrade for a possible timing chain issue and had seen that video before. Never thought about going back, for pan research.

I hear that! Second week of April and it was 24degF out this morning.. I live closer to Buffalo NY.

Best of luck with that diesel.
