Brake wear sensor percentage

The 2025 has a brake pad wear percentage in the info system. I currently have 18,000 miles on my vehicle of which 10,000 miles are highway miles. I drive like an old person because I am, and I am very easy on my brakes. It currently says my brakes are 51% worn so that means I will need brakes at 36,000 miles and again more than half of that will be highway miles. The brakes on my other equinoxs have lasted to 90,000 miles.
So, does anyone know if that brake wear shown on the info screen is an actual read from the brakes OR is this just a computer calculation based on miles ???

I can't answer your question, but wanted to mention that I saw that there is an issue with false brake pad warnings on either Terrain or Nox, or both. Supposedly there is a software update to correct this. There was no identifying number given, but a little research could turn this up if you want to pursue.

I can't speak on the 25 but when I was getting close to replacing the brakes on my 2014 Nox I started asking around and two places gave me a similar answer. They weren't sure of an exact price BUT it was the most expensive brakes they sold. That came from a Chevy dealer and a local garage. Neither one was sure why but they were sure that the brakes on a 14 Nox were expensive. Not crazy high but definitely high.
