Hello to all. I have a 2018 Equinox 2.0l AWD that I haven't been able to drive in almost a year. The reason is due to the 2024 hurricane that came to town and caused light flooding inside the vehicle and ruined the engine. Currently, I have another engine on stand-by waiting to go in. But before that, I needed to work on some electrical issues. First was the Body Control Module so that mechanics could use a scan device and get [any] kind of reading or codes. Of course most know that you need to have the BCM programed for it to work. So I was able to track down a used BCM and plug it in. Now I'm able to get power to most things. The next issue is getting the emergency brake released which were engaged when the old BCM was fried. To do that, I have to get my key fobs reprogramed and get by the security system and other stuff.
Here's where the real issue begins. I've gone over the 30 minute fob programing routine many times now. But at the point where you "place the key fob in the center console cup holder" and "press the engine start button," the screen shows that it's waiting to program 'Fob#1' but doesn't do anything even after waiting 15-30 minutes. I believe something is not putting out or receiving a signal from the fob. Yes, the batteries in the fobs are new, and the vehicle battery is charged. I checked fuses but nothing seems to be missing or blown (unless it's a relay). Just to add, not much flood water got into the vehicle; only up to the lower door frame. It was enough to ruin the BCM and maybe the module (I think it's for the Air Bags or Noise Cancelation Device?) that's in front of it. I don't think the antenna module in the upper left-rear is damaged or faulty. One thing I haven't really checked is the ECM to see if it has anything to do with the key fob programming.
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I also need to add that I have taken my vehicle to an official dealership for the engine work. They quoted me $15k for the engine since it had to be a new engine, and that didn't include any extra modules or devices that may be needed. I can do some of the maintenance myself. I just don't have the tools or lifts for major repairs. So far I've got my 'stand-by engine' and three extra modules for about $1200 from an out-of-state junkyard. Not a bad start.
