I find the mpg significantly worse than our 22 and 19 models with same engines. Anyone else see this? I’d average 35 mpg on the freeway consistently. Now, 27. Not happy.

I going to say 24-27 on averaging. The highest was 35 one time. I need to reset it and see what it tops out at now. :)

That's actually close to what Chevrolet rates it. You are correct that it is lower than the previous gen probably due to it's larger size and boxier shape with the same motor. Also slight difference depending on whether you have the AWD version or not. I agree it is disappointing and worse the most of the competition.

From Car&Driver:
The most fuel-efficient Equinox is the front-wheel drive model, which is rated for 26 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. However, the all-wheel drive model might be better for those who plan to do long road trips, as its highway fuel economy rating is higher at 29 mpg even though its city rating is lower at 24 mpg.

From what I remember EPA Highway mileage dropped on the 2025 for AWD and FWD.
Did the OP save the window stickers from his 22 and 25?

Part of the reason in MPG difference between FWD and AWD is they use different transmissions. FWD uses CVT and AWD is an 8 speed, if i remember what i read.

Actually, the 2025 LSD is not identical to the 2022 or 2019 LYX - it has 5 more HP but not sure how they achieved that, possibly just better tuned. But it is a different designation, so probably more than that. But your mileage should not be that bad. If you are past the "mechanical and electrical systems break in" period, 4,000 miles or 6400 km, then I would bring this up to the dealer on your next visit. I did notice an improvement in MPG after the break in, but that coincided with my switch to premium gas. Not sure which it was, but I am happy to leave things as they are.

All good points.
One more item that makes a little difference is winter gas.

I am averaging around 23 MPG. II have less than 1000 miles on it & the weather has been really cold.
Not much highway driving at all.
The 2022 I had was averaging 26-27 MPG in this kind of weather

2025 RS FWD

My 25 is not as good as my 18 was. I’m driving the same roads in the same weather conditions and I have lost 3 or 4 MPG from the 18 AWD to the 25 AWD. I don’t drive aggressively because I don’t need to get anywhere in a hurry. I drive the posted speed limit. I know that the 25 is a few inches wider than the previous generation and I’m thinking that the width might have something to do with it. I have 3500 on the SUV with no problems. I really like it.

The front end is also very blunt. Less aerodynamic.

I have a 2018 that gives me 40 mpg with highway driving at 60mph and using the CC. My 2025 is so much larger and more comfortable and as unbelievable as it sounds I paid almost the same price 7 years later. I don't know the weight of the 18 or the 25 but the 25 is definitely heavier than the 18. I haven't taken a road trip yet but I wasn't expecting 40 MPG like in my 2018.

Travel update. I just arrived in LA after a 1871 mile drive from Iowa. I drove Interstates 29, 40 and 15 as well as some 2 lane highways getting the Equinox on some flat roads and through mountains. I reset the trip odometer before I left. It shows that I averaged 29.4 miles per gallon over the entire trip with a fully loaded vehicle. Zero issues, plenty of power and an enjoyable ride. Happy motoring to all of you.

I am consistently getting 27+ mpg in suburban/highway driving. I always calculate my own milage even to the point of returning to the same pump at the same gas station when I can. I am amazed how close the computer generated mpg is to my own number, usually a few tenths difference or less. On open road with cruise control operating I am expecting close to 35 mpg. My 2018 Equinox gives me at least that during highway driving.

You won’t get 35. I did on my last 3 Equinoxes. It’s down at least 15% on the 25.

Let's wait and see how good your prediction is. I would bet closer to 35 than 30, but we shall see.
