2025 Equinox LT - Used to be a Honda-only guy…

Hello! I’ve just registered for this site and am hoping greatly, that I’ll learn a ton about this brand spanking new car. Relative to my last 2002 Honda CR-V (manual w/Cassette and CD), it is complicated!

We’ve purchased the owners manual and I’m trying hard to learn as much as I can about it. Off the top, it surprises me that:
1. IF going to a car wash - ensure the wipers are not sensing the water (i.e. shut them off - both front and rear)
2. IF in snowy conditions (standard in Wisconsin winters) - ensure two items are turned off before trying to rock the car out of the snow. This I need to re-read and understand better.

There are a lot of “smarts” on this car and I need to understand them so I know when and how to override if I need to!

#2 is probably referring to turning off the traction control or vehicle stability assist or whatever GM calls it now. With that feature left on, the controls basically take throttle away from you so the wheels don't spin.

I don't know that you'll get 22yrs out of any vehicle today, but I do know I really enjoy my 2021 Equinox.

Congrats on the new Nox!

All I can say about rocking the car in snow is this: I had a 2013 Nox AWD and now a 22 RS Nox AWD - always had good snow tires on both and have never been in a situation that the combo of AWD and snow tires could not get out of, no rocking required. I live in Canada and used to travel over 70,000km a year for work, so I had been in most situations you could imagine.

The 2013 was my first AWD car and I have to say that I never felt more safe in winter driving as I did then and do now, I'm not sure I can ever do without AWD. My 2009 Impala FWD did go through a few rocking episodes LOL.

Hopefully, you never need to resort to rocking your new Nox!

Congrats on your purchase. There is a section in the owners manual that these vehicles have a car wash mode. I definitely do know while the car is in neutral
The automated wipers do not activate as the car wash I go to has a belt you drive onto any place your vehicle and neutral

Ledman66, you are correct! I double check everything (yeah, that's sometimes a curse!) and found this in the manual too. It's a little non-intuitive but true.

From the manual (pg 80):

Wiper Arm Assembly Protection
When using an automatic car wash, move the windshield wiper lever to OFF. This disables the automatic Rainsense windshield wipers.

With Rainsense, if the vehicle is in N (Neutral) and the speed is very slow, the wipers will automatically stop at the base of the windshield.

The wiper operations return to normal when the vehicle is no longer in N (Neutral) or the vehicle speed has increased.


Personally, I'd probably just ensure they're off in case...just in case. -Peter
