Folks,

Disclaimer: I have not fiddled with it at all but understood it required a software update to function so we have an external garage door opener.

Does anyone know MORE about this waiting period for an update to activate the integrated door opener on the 2025 Equinox? I've read the following about it and thought I'd check this forum before going to the dealership and having them route the question up their channels.

Thanks in advance!

I've seen online somewhere that the software update should be coming sometime in Q1 of 2025 but nothing more specific.

Interesting! If there are real, honest-to-goodness sources out there, I'd love to hear about them! The only communication channels I know of are 1) this GREAT list and 2) my dealer who I believe a) then goes through his service team who then b) I believe have a back channel to Chevrolet and then back again.

Don't get me wrong - perhaps the second resource 2) is the perfectly fine way to go. I guess I just feel like I wanna be efficient and quick. :)

On the 2025 did they do away with the three buttons on the ceiling?
Yes, no buttons on the 2025. I had read that it would be an over the air update. Hopefully that will still happen soon so I don’t have to go to the dealership

Just to be clear (and hopefully clear confusion) there are buttons below the rear-view mirror. THOSE are used for the integrated garage door opener.

Thank you!!! I'm calling my dealer!
I called the dealer to find out that the update will be over the air for integrated garage door opener. When? Sometime this quarter.

I wish the system were that the customer were notified when an update was pending and told when it occurred. I called Chevrolet Customer Service 1-800-222-1020, to find out more. I provided my VIN (required) and added my address, but according to them, there were no pending updates for my vehicle. What I don't understand is how some folks get the update (per the image sent earlier) and others don't. A rolling update to ensure things work? I don't know. I'd love to know more about how this all works.

Thanks. I was confused and thought the 25 didn't have the integrated garage door opener and you had to use a icon on the screen.

From page 107 of the owners manual:Universal Remote System See Radio Frequency Statement 3 318. Universal Remote System Programming If equipped, the Universal Remote (e.g., garage door) controls are located in the Controls menu on the infotainment screen.

I should have checked the manual first. You are correct and goes on to 108 for programming instructions. In looking under the mirror, it's becomming clear to me that that provides a different function. This is too bad as it is much more convenient to have a physical button to open a garage remotely, then going through screens to do it.

If you didn't realize it your rear view mirror can function two ways.
One way is a normal rear view mirror.
When you flip that lever it changes to a camera mirror.
You can change the brightness of the display and zoom in or out.

I was looking at videos to see how the garage door opener works on some of the newer GM vehicles and it mentioned when the car gets close to your house a garage door icon will appear on the screen.
This way you do not have to change screens to find the door icon.
If that's true on the 2025 Equinox, that's something I could live with.

Here's the video I saw. The link is hard to see and displays as Google Search.

Not all the 2025 GM vehicles have this setup. My wife's 2025 Blazer has the older and smaller infotainment screen.
She prefers a small screen and big engine :)

That’s how it works on my Audi (uses GPS) and it’s very nice.

(COPIED from post on another thread. . . )

I just got back from having my infotainment system updated by the dealership. It took 90 minutes (not sure how long it actually took them), and works great! After setting it up, the icon appears automatically as I approach my home. Quick tap, door opens. Finally!!

Another couple of things happened with the update:
  1. OK GOOGLE, show my audio controls - now only shows a few, the unlabeled/duplicates are no longer there (not a bad thing)
  2. Toggle switch for radio on steering wheel used to show favorites, then I would scroll through and select what I wanted. Now, it just scrolls through all Sirius stations in order (not favorites). Not sure what it would do with AM/FM. I don't believe this is an improvement, but it's what my Acadia used to do, so I'm sure I'll get used to it quickly.
  3. Not sure if this is due to the update, but Google Play store now has Prime Video and Peacock that you can download to watch things ONLY while in Park.
  4. (Edited to add) WAZE now shows in driver's display as one of the available screens (in addition to Google Maps).
I don't plan on keeping Wi-Fi after free trial ends. I will try to use my phone as a hot spot and connect car to that. I doubt it will work for OK GOOGLE items and other apps, but will try just the same.

Dealership didn't even know about this update until I mentioned it to them. I was definitely the first to bring it up to them!

Joe,

Thanks for the informative update! I have an outstanding case with Chevrolet about notification on this issue. Still pending a response. Proper and timely communications on this topic is an issue. Good to hear others are getting the update - so it DOES exist.
