Just picked up a 2018 lt, and was wondering if can alarm comes as standard equipment? Small red light comes on ,on top of dash but if ya shake car the alarm doesn't go off. Tried setting menu but nothing on it about alarm. Any suggestions?

I have my 18 set up to lock the doors after a brief period, after leaving the car. If the passenger tries to exit after the doors have locked, it sets off the alarm. The alarm won't go off by shaking the car.

I had an incident 2 years ago, that shattered the rear window. The alarm didn't go off. A neighbor's friend, parked on the street, remote locked his car, and set off my alarm. I have no idea how it works, lol.

What you are describing is the standard theft deterrent system that GM puts on all of it's vehicles. It doesn't work like an aftermarket or higher end system. There are no shock sensors, etc. I believe on some of them, the horn will blow if a door gets manually unlocked w/out opening the door first.

My daughter's Sonic was set to automatically lock her doors. One morning she opened the hood to add some anti-freeze and the darn thing locked her keys and phone inside on the seat. That led to a disaster when she cut her arm breaking into her house to get to the spare set of keys. My advice would be to disable the auto-lock feature and never use it.
