Why does GM intentionally leave out Super Cruise in the Equinox?

I had a 2014 Camaro with the onboard nav that did not show a local highway. I asked the Nav company is the new update (some $200) included has the new highway, they said I would have to buy to find out. So I bought I think it was then a 2016 software and still no local highway, money refunded no problem.

Then I asked why they are reinventing the wheel when google maps shows the new highway as sections were being built, no answer.

Now I am asking why is this super highway being done by GM and not a colaboration with google for instance who already have an extensive database.

Mary Barra doesn't want to share any $$$. For the same reason Apple maps duplicates what Google Earth already does.

Since the GM system uses LIDAR as well as other means to figure out where it is, I'm not sure Google has all the data needed by Super Cruise. Or it could as sdhow mentions - btw, that the heck is Mary Barra?

Update in case someone else in my shoes runs across this thread. I found where to turn on LKA, and it is not where the manual says. Also, once on, I did not believe it was working right. All of my impressions are from my 2016 Honda Civic. I had to take the car into the dealership yesterday for a heater issue that turned out to be a bad BCM. They test-drove the car and said the LKA was functioning correctly. In both cars when you take your hand off the wheel they track the lane more or less. I am NOT talking about self-driving. The Honda will track the center well, while the Equinox finds the lane by wandering from left to right. It also always goes to the left. After reading the manual more closely, I am guessing the dealership is right and the GM 2025 LKA is not as good as a 2016 Honda.

What the manual says ...

My confusion was caused by the manual being wrong.
It says the LKA is on the steering wheel, but it is not.

I found it in the settings.
Settings->See More Controls->Drive & Park

So now I finally had it on. :)
