According to a daily fuel price survey compiled for AAA, the most expensive state to buy gas in the USA is Hawaii at £4.48 a gallon.

It was named along with five other states, California ($4.203), Alaska ($4.179), Illinois ($4.073), Connecticut ($4.068) and New York ($4.018) among six states where gas prices have topped $4 a gallon.
