My original 2014 LTZ trans would downshift by itself going down a steep grade whether or not the cruise was on but not set, on and set, or the system was turned off.

I replaced the transmission with a 54,000 mile 2015 unit about 18,000 miles ago and it has also started doing the same thing going downhill.
Is this an electrical problem or mechanical problem? Throttle pressure will release the downshift and it will up shift.

I'm not clear on your concern, but this is called grade logic and the transmission will do it on it's own.

I live in a very hilly area and the 6spd in my 2021 does this if I am travelling down hill and picking up speed and tapping the brakes. Mine will typically go from 6 to 5, then 5 to 4. I may have even had it go 4-3. Any go pedal input and it will upshift when it can.
