We have a '17 equinox LS which has recently had the issue of the car alarm going off randomly. I've read the hood latch can often be the cause of this so it's been replaced already but that hasn't stopped it. Is there a way I can diagnose what's causing the alarm to trip? All we see, and not consistently, is a theft attempt message on the dash. TIA.

could be the door switch or rear lift gate.

the body control module (BCM) monitors the hood, door and rear hatch ajar switches to determine if unauthorized entry is attempted. It also monitors the keyless entry transmitter. If access to the vehicle is attempted without using the unlock command from the keyless entry transmitter, the BCM will sound the alarm and display a THEFT ATTEMPTED message on the instrument panel.

Thanks, is there a way to see what device is triggering it? Any kind of reader?
