Instrument and Infotainment Display - Blank for seconds while driving

2025 Equinox and for the first time I've experienced both displays blanking out for a few seconds while driving at night. It has under 1,000 miles on it so we're working the kinks out of it. Fuse issue? Bigger issue?

I've got our dealer looking into it but thought I'd fly it out here too. I'll report back anything I learn.

I hope they find a simple fix. But with the amount of software in cars these days, it could also be an ugly problem that drags on for months while the engineers back at HQ work on it (and a bunch of other problems)>

I don't know if your 2025 has physical or digital gauges for the speedo, tach, etc. My 2024 has mechanical (digitally controlled) physical gauges.

If you are losing the speedo, that probably counts as a safety defect, and you should file a report with NHTSA. That will help focus GM's attention on the defect.

Interesting. Didn't occur to me about the blank speedometer being a safety issue and the idea of filing with NHTSA. I'm going to go the friendly route first and see what they find out at the dealership.

Yeah, all 25 equinox’s have full LCD screens for all your gauges and of course the infotainment center, and I could definitely say that would be a safety issue if that screen is blanking out even for a second you lose everything so hopefully it’s just a software glitch.

I’ve had new many vehicles and sometimes they glitch with computer issues, and then it never happens again. The dealer can never finds anything so hopefully you won’t have any more issues and if you do, hopefully they’ll be able to correct it ASAP

Please do not go the "friendly route" only. That's not being friendly and you are not squealing on anyone. The law mandates that GM is supposed to self-report such defects to the NHTSA but you're working with a dealer, not the vehicle manufacturer. I've seen full-blown recalls done where an investigation was started with as few as four (4) owner complaints that resulted in the recall of thousands of vehicles.

That particular one recalled almost 27,000 vehicles and Ford already knew about the problem, made fixes a year earlier, and blew it off as not being a safety problem but the NHTSA disagreed and a recall was mandated.

The vast majority of NHTSA recalls are self-reported and self-initiated, not mandated by the feds. The system usually works but owners have to do their part.

Keep it short, factual, and non-emotional as you did here and the report will work. The NHTSA manually reviews every single submission and forwards 100% on to the vehicle manufacturer (not a dealer) within a few business days. That's how you get attention on your problem.

Ford, on one of their truck chassis models, had a recall a few years ago for the exact problem; the dash going black for a few minutes to forever. A recall was ordered. People were driving around using their GPS as their speedometer until the recall occurred.

I had the same thing happen to me yesterday. Infotainment blanked followed by the main DIC. Out for 2 seconds than reappeared as if nothing was wrong. I have a 2025 with 1250 miles on it. I will report to NHTSA.

#24-NA-193: Radio Software Update W52E-176.1.2-M170-SQBR5-250.2 - (Nov 26, 2024).

It was updated at the dealership at no charge.

Thank you! I’m getting my Equinox serviced and checked over next week and I will ask the dealer for the update! This forum is great!

Update 12/18/24 - Went to the dealer today and received the update. Actually there were 5 updates applied today that took 2 hours to complete. You might want to check with your dealer to see if you need them.

It would be nice if owners of vehicles were told of updates that are necessary via email or through the MyChevrolet phone app (just checked that in case that WAS the way they notified). Thanks for the info on additional patches.

Apparently, I will be notified of field actions and recalls via email or Chevy App center. However, I will not be notified of any technical updates.
