My infotainment system started glitching registering phantom touches. I couldn’t get it to stop. Tried shutting it off it would just turn back on. I got mad a smacked it with my hand and cracked the screen. I have a replacement coming they’re easy to replace takes all of 15 minutes. My question is do I have to take it to the dealer to have reprogrammed? If so does anyone know what the normal cost is?

If you are only replacing the screen there should be no need to reprogram. All the programming is in the head unit.

Thanks for the reply! I am only replacing the touch screen unit. I only asked because when I went to the dealer about it. They said it would be months to get the screen and then they would have to install and maybe reprogram it. What they didn’t say is that swapping out that screen is super easy and can be done in 10-15 minutes.

Hope I am in the right forum.... Here's one for the proverbial book. After purchasing the 2024 Chevy Equinox RS, I learned the Infotainment "system" is the lowest grade of system. The dealer was useless, so I made 6+ calls to Chevy tech support and... after connected to their version of the "IT department", I learned of 5-6 different versions, each adding features to the infotainment system. IOR is the default installed version. IOS, IOT, IOU are systems with added functionality. For example, I do not have "USERS", "APPS" or the multiview rear camera. Still learning what else is MIA. Now the kicker... Based on the VIN, the Infotainment system can NEVER be upgraded as it can not be programmed by the dealer. I am very gun-shy to attempt an out of market upgrade for fear the warranty will be impacted.

Just a fair "warning" the dealers will not tell you... nor do they appear to understand. I was so happy, as the customer, to find this out when no one at the dealer or first level chevy support could not figure out why I was missing the "APPS" icon...

Ah.. how I long for the days of TQM/CQI and full feature documentation.............lol

That is pretty sad on a top of the line model. I would expect the lowest end info/entertainment on an LS model, but not on LT or above.

What's worse is GM for the most part stops supporting the radio control modules after 8yrs or so. You are on your own to find a good used unit and then have to source someone who can program it to your vin. What a hassle to hack in an aftermarket unit that will blend in with all the built in controls.

Think of all the modules on our cars. These are the things that will send a vehicle to the recycler much sooner than it should have to.

Hello, just accidentally cracked my screen on the infotainment system and it is not responding well to touch. I have a 2024 RS model as well. I don't think they will cover it under warranty.....
So, my question is this, how do you know what replacement you need? I found two on eBay and one from a salvage online that all are for the 2024 Equinox. Any advice? Did you replace yourself and if you did, did you find a tutorial ? Thanks

If you go to the dealer saying "I cracked..." the dealer will not cover it, but if you say you noticed that the screen is cracked, you have a pretty good chance of it being covered. It's all in the wording !
