Cig Lighter instead of USB Port?

My wife recently inherited her fathers 2017 Chevy Equinox after he passed away and we would like to add CarPlay to work with the system. Only problem is in the front console under the radio and heating/ac controls where there should be a usb/aux data port according to manuals there is only a cigarette lighter! Is this common? Any chance this can be swapped out for a usb port that connects to the entertainment system?

The 2nd gen has the 12V lighter style port under the radio- the USB that connects to the Infotainment is in the center console, lift the cover, it is near the front. However, it is not Carplay compatible.

Thank you - found it! Any ideas on how to transform the unit to become CarPlay compatible other than replacing the entire unit?
