Fwd Collision system inconsistent compared to my previous 2021 Equinox. Book that came with car says a green car symbol will turn amber when too close to car in front. Mine has never turned amber.

I think it’s called the “gap” setting controlled by a switch on the left side of the steering wheel. Yes I tried that. It does change the following distance for the adaptive cruise control, and the auto braking works with the cc

Book that came with car
Are we talking 2025? What book?

a green car symbol will turn amber
I have the lane assist turned on, but I'm not sure if that matters. I know that turns amber and the car only appears when a car is in front. In that case, it does turn amber but that is when LKA is off.
I know that is confusing.
Let me try saying it a different way.
Whether the car appears or not depends on sensing the car in front. Amber is based on the criteria for successful LKA.

Yes it’s a 2025. The “book” is a small guide called: Getting to know your 2025 Equinox. On page 17 under Driver Assistance Systems / Fwd Collision Alert it says the Vehicle Ahead Indicator will turn from green to amber when following too closely. So I need to turn off LKA for that feature to work?

You're probably not a tailgater.
On my 2018 I have 3 different settings I can pick on how close I get before I get a amber light.
It's very rare that I get a amber light.

I traded in a 2021 Equinox and I would routinly get alerts/red lights when approaching a car in front without the brakes on. This 2025 is not doing either + it’s supposed to apply brakes as well….has not done either in 2700 miles.

alerts/red lights when approaching a car in front without the brakes on

I have had the "red light/seat vibrate". All I remember is the car appearing for the cruise control.
Funning thing, I shared this somewhere else, my sister-in-law was standing behind the car backing me up, and I saw her. The car locked up its brakes and would not move till I did something like press and hold the brake. Now that I say, there are some settings where I could have changed it. Maybe others affect what you are talking about. We have a flower pot just outside the garage door, and we get the seat alert every time we back out. :)

As far as I know, every feature is turned on in the settings menu. I also tried turning off the lane assist feature…. No help

The crown of the street at the end of my driveway makes my seat vibrate.

The only times I got the red lights on my windshield were false alarms.

My red lights seem to work properly, one time a lady in the Starbucks parking lot decided her stop sign was not for her and my car indeed did alert and stop.

Except for the fact that if I turn off the adaptive cruise with the button, as opposed to stepping on the brake - AND a car is in front of me (not necessarily close to me), the alert goes off. That I consider something of a false alarm ....

Just for that reason I try to drive with my adaptive CC on as much as possible. It's just for that one time when I look away.

The FCA works with or without Adaptive Cruise - as noted my experience was in a parking lot, so Adaptive Cruise was not being used. Keep in mind, FCA is intended for speeds of lees than 50 mph. Over 50, if you have adaptive cruise on, that will take it's place - but it is not guaranteed to stop in time.

I have let the ACC bring me to a full stop and it works great but it's a nail biter waiting for it to come to a complete stop. I have a friend that bought a Traverse that was self driving but he can't deal with the self driving. It is kinda scary trusting the car.
