Anyone else have/had this issue? I bought the car in Jan 2023. First noticed the bubbling in early summer following a brushless car wash. I contacted GM and learned I have a corrosion warranty, but the 2 dealerships I went to say it’s not covered because this occurred from chipping and there’s no “rust through hole”! Body shops say that they could fix the hood and repaint it, but the bubbling will come back eventually because the corrosion is in the seam along the edge. What to do?!? I like the car, but am particular about the look of my cars, and in my over 50 years of driving used and brand new cars, never, ever had an issue such as this! I am thinking of trading the car in, but of course, the value of the car, is now lower partially because of this issue.
My 2019 is doing the same thing. I am the only owner of this vehicle and it's garaged the majority of the time. Never heard of aluminum rusting before. I am currently trying to get my local dealer to replace the hood under the 6/10000 warranty, I mean if I could every get anyone to return my call!!!

This is unfortunate for sure and I went through this with aluminum hoods on other vehicles in the past.

Aluminum not corroding is a common misconception in automotive world. Aluminum corrodes badly in the rust belt. Left unchecked, It turns to white dust.

Good luck! Let us all know if you get GM to fix. Maybe then the rest of us can get our cars fixed too

I had a 2017 Ford Explorer which did that at the 4 year mark of ownership. They had to replace the hood. It had something to do with how the paint was reacting with the metal. After doing some research online (which I suggest you do), I discovered it was happening to other cars. At first they want me to pay for it, but after I quoted the articles and and filed a formal complaint, I ended getting it done for nothing.

Yeah...aluminum.

I have this same issue on my 2009 Expedition. It's not the PO's fault; it has to do with the assembly line.

Aluminum requires specific cleaning and prep prior to paint. If any part is TOUCHED by bare skin, it disturbs this coating and will end up in bubbling of the paint. It literally corrodes underneath the paint surface (aluminum oxide, a white, chalky substance) and delaminates.

Good luck if your out of the bumper-to-bumper warranty period. And I'm in California, so it has NOTHING to do with road salt.
