Hello

My wife has a 2019 Equinox and when we plug in a capable iPhone 13 and 15, it charges fine, but is not recognized by the infotainment system. The CarPlay icon is greyed out and we troubleshot every which way to get it to connect, but it won’t. The cable is new, the phones are new, so I’ve been banging my head on this for a while.

I thought maybe I needed to replace the usb module, but that didn’t fix anything. I noticed on the back of the usb module is a typical micro usb hub for the connection. Before I tear out the stereo module to check the wiring, is there anything else I can check? Is there a usb cable that connects the usb module to the back of the stereo?

Thank You,
Jason

This happened to me in my Camaro. I disconnected the battery for an hour then connected it back and it finally started to recognize my iPhone again.

You did not say if you installed the car app on the phone first

CarPlay is on by default. Sometimes you may have to go to settings>General>Carplay and select the car that appears and customize what apps you want use. Otherwise the steps you quoted: “Make sure Siri is turned on and check to make sure CarPlay isn't restricted in Content & Privacy Restrictions” should be reviewed just in case settings had been changed from factory settings. Since it doesn’t read any iPhone this is isolated to the Equinox.

I have been having on and off issues with my 2020 Chevy Equinox not recognizing either my android phone or my kids iPhone. When we purchased the car used with 30K miles these exact phones worked with the exact same cables. Now at 60K neither phone works with either carplay or android auto. After some troubleshooting, I feel like the root of the issue could be a loose cable connection at the mini-B USB connector on the back side of the radio. (Mine had considerable tension on all the cables)

At this moment, both phones work using these troubleshooting steps:
1) Watch this video to find the actual radio on the vehicle. (Its not the screen that you can see from the cabin)
2) After removing the glovebox, contort your body and look up at the actual radio. There are several connections. On the 2020 variant, there are 4 cables closest to the passenger compartment. 2 of them are old school mini USB-b cables. The one with the black wire coming out of the back is the one that controls the regular sized USB A and USB-C connections in the center console. I disconnected and re-seated this cable from the bottom of the radio.
3) I then disconnected the car's main battery by removing the negative battery cable and left it off for 15 minutes.
4) Upon reconnecting the negative battery cable and starting the car, Carplay began working again. (I have not tried android auto)

I will update this post if my situation changes but for now, I am satisfied that I can get google maps to work on the main screen.

(FIXED)

Hello. I have a Chevy Equinox 2019, IPhone 14 Pro Max and have had CarPlay issues after the IOS 18.1 update. My CarPlay would run up to a couple of mins or until I begin pressing buttons. After, it will freeze, go to black screen then reset my radio, over and over!

The (FIX) for me was updating to the IOS 18.2 Beta version. This is the link. https://beta.apple.com/

It’s an easy process to sign up with the Apple beta testing program and they’ll unlock IOS 18.2 update on your device to download.

I hope this works for you all.
