2019 1.5 - P0017 stalling out at idle help

ok so here's the issue im having 2019 1.5 equinox

the car refuses to start up, it will only crank up every 10th time or so

tried new cam and new crank sensors

code is P0017

once it starts though, if you hold the RPM at 3000 the engine will stay running indefinitely....if you drop down to 2500 it will start to wobble within a 500 rpm band...and if you put it on idle it will stall out

does this sound like a bad VVT solenoid? it definitely sounds like a timing-related issue or VVT-related

I wound't rule out a tank of bad fuel.

WatchJrGo did a video on a 2019 Equinox 1.5T some time ago that had similar symptoms to what you describe. It wound up being a 3-part serious they did so much work on troubleshooting. He went as far as to remove the valve cover to check cam timing. Did a compression check on it, etc..etc.

In the end it was a bad tank of fuel. Lots of water in it, it looked like.
