Bought new in 2012. Great vehicle until the paint started peeling about 8 months ago
The rest of the car looks great. Didn't even go to the primer, straight to the metal. I don't believe there was even primer applied to the vehicle. Should I expect this from a 12-13 year old car? I don't think so. This will be my last Chevy.

I guess if that happened to me, and the dealer said it would be my dime to fix it, it would be my last GM product also.

I'm going in for my lifetime oil change and tire rotation soon. I certainly expect no one will notice this monstrosity or even care at the dealership I purchased it from. They will try to up sell me on numerous items first, things like wiper blades and a cabin filter. I received a price from Macco for 2k for just the hood and top before the skylight.
Unfortunately it just keeps peeling away day by day and before you know it the whole car will look like this. Will Chevy actually accept this flaw? Never, there have been numerous lawsuits against Chevy and they keep dodging the bullet saying it's out of warranty. Look it up.
Absolute garbage, make note folks, your vehicle WILL look like this one day. Good luck and god bless.

What state? Outside or garaged? In Arizona a 13 YO can can look like that. Any brand.

Florida. However it's mainly in the shade or under a canopy. I've never seen a paint job go like this. Like I said, went right to the metal. I've seen fading to the primer but never straight to rust.

this can't be normal, base on my limited knowledge of auto production lines, you would think it would be impossible to have skipped the primer dip. I would think it is more related to lack of or improper metal prep before the primer was applied. I wonder what would happen if you sent GM this picture and verified it had no accidents?

I've heard stories about how much Chevy cares about their paint on numerous occasions. As a matter of fact I had an 86' gray Chevy van that did the same thing, fortunately it was only the paint that chipped away and the primer was exposed for years until it eventually started rusting though the primer. Most of all the Chevy vans at work are the same exact way. I mean it's an obvious problem that Chevy cares nothing about.
My hopes is that someone important at Chevy might see this post and reach out so I don't have to drop several thousands to have it repainted. Also driving it around with a sign on that back window that reads "Don't buy a Chevy if you don't want your car to look like this" might raise some eyebrows.
