I have a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox with the 2.4 engine, 148k miles. I can start it up and drive it just fine, but when I put it in park after driving it, the check engine light comes on and it will not go into drive. When I put it in drive, The "D" on the odometer starts flashing and the car does not go forward. I did pull the DTC - the only one is P0601 (Transmission Control Module Read Only Memory Performance). I cleared the code and drove it down the road, it shifted fine. Got back home, put it in park, and the check engine light came back on - same code again. I'm stumped. Could it be the TCM?

The flashing D is to let you know there is an issue with the transmission module.
P0601 is a memory issue with the PCM. it could be a bad connection in the wires or a failing battery or even a bad PCM.

I hope it's just a bad connection. I'll investigate further tomorrow. The car drove perfectly fine until the timing chain broke... just replaced the engine. As soon as I replaced the engine, this transmission problem began. :(

Let's see. The computer is saying that the TCM is bad, and you are wondering if it might be bad. It it were me, I would believe the computer. I don't feel that I am smarter than the computer. Just my humble opinion.

best of luck! It sounds like the new engine may have been the trigger. I would recheck every connection and make sure they are tight.

It isn't always that cut and dry, but I would always take a transmission warning seriously. Fixing it today, might save a rebuild tomorrow.
