2010 Equinox LT V6 Manual Shifting Not Working

Hi all -I have a 2010 Equinox V6 LT with about 118K miles. Experiencing a problem where I put the gear shifter in Manual and it does not allow me to do any gear changes up or down using the +/- switch. All it does is rev up the engine. It is not throwing any codes. Any Ideas?

I have 2015 doing the same thing. I have read that it is in the switch itself, possibly dirty or needs replacing. I haven't had it looked at because I think I could possible fix it myself if I could figure out how to get to it. How to remove the gearshift cover and figure out what the problems is.
Have you had any luck fixing this problem? If so could you share what you did to fix it. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Curious, why do you use the manual gear selection mode? I rarely used it in my '10.

I live in the mountains and I use it to go up and down the hills and such, especially in the winter
