I have not yet tried to remove any of the black chrome, but it is just a wrap so it shouldn't be too hard - I hope. I have never tried to remove a wrap before, but maybe a heat gun or hair dryer would help loosen it?

Looked in my OM, no audible alert to turn on (or off). The flashing in the mirror is pretty reliable, just get used to checking that before any lane change. Best to verify with your eyeballs, just in case tho.

if you've already replace the battery in the key fob, perhaps the car's battery is getting weak. Things like this happen if the battery is 3 -5 years old.
