Actually DROVE IT today!

I had it sitting in the driveway for 12 straight days to see if the BCM software update really fixed the dead battery problem. Apparently it did.

So this means the two little blue lights to either side of the CD player was all it took to kill the battery after only 7 days! Unless the software update also fixed another drain that just wasn't visible...

The only complaint I have is that the dealership gave NO INFORMATION as to what they did. You'd think there would be a version number on a display somewhere that you could view to verify the software update (or at least something on the paperwork).

I'd imagine that they gave you no information because they didn't know what specifically was effected by the software update.

When I worked for Volvo, if a customer had a complaint that could not be mechanically traced, the database was searched for updates to systems and also for complaint keywords. The system would recommend software updates (if available) to certain modules as a preliminary diagnosis method. Explination of the software "fix" was not really ever given. If the software didn't fix the problem, deeper digging was required.

If they're updating a piece of software, the software has a version number. This number should be visible to the customer on a display somewhere or (at the very least) it should be noted on the paperwork.

The customer should not just assume the problem has been fixed without any evidence of what was changed.

I agree... sadly all you'll see at most is a billable part number that means nothing to anyone aside from the technician. The tech may not even know what the software does. Its a reletively close guarded secret. If they divulged what the fixes did, computer geeks could duplicate the programs and render the GM proprietary system useless.

Face it, you wont always like what comes from a dealer. I agree that you should be told what's going into your car but some things just don't make it to the customer. It'd be like walking in and asking for a copy of their factory service manuals.

One thing I've VERY certain of is the tech doesn't have the slightest clue as to what he's loading. His knowledge begins and ends with the high-level description displayed on his screen.

But c'mon - a version number is not too much to ask for, I don't think. One problem I COULD see is there may be MANY version numbers in use out there (even across the same make and model), and giving out or displaying these numbers could cause confusion among customers as they begin to 'compare notes'.

Still - I'd like to see SOMETHING. How 'bout a friggin' timestamp that shows a re-load of a particular software program?? They could surely do at least THAT !!

Also, I'd really love to see how many different software programs they have and how many different versions of these programs exist (and how many vehicles are running with each version). You'd like to think that at least within a given year, make, and model everybody is running the exact same software ... but I'd bet that's not the case (which, if true, would be sad)...

She does because she doesn't want and knows the hell I will put her through if she don't. Let's just say I am a lucky man to have her and she stays and puts up with my crap.

Yesterday was our anniversary. 5years......

5 years that has flown by.

On the drive to SC I reset the mileage once on the highway and took pictures of the average fuel mileage at 28.6 and later at 29.5 with a average of 62 mph. Once you get to stop and go city driving and leave it idling it quickly dropped to 26-27. I did have about 250 miles at half fuel remaining.

Had it detailed locally by my Bud I've been using
for about 2-3 years now. He did outside, inside,
vacuumed, wheels, tires, and wax'd her for $70.
