Ok so I only know the basics about cars to get me by so I apologize in advance if I sound dumb or frustrated anyone but I don't have the money to dump into it right now for a mechanic. Anyway, I got this 2011 equinox with 2.4 AWD with 160 though miles on it. When I bought it it was leaking out the water pump and they told me someone tried to steal the cat so it was loud. Got it home and had my friend replaced the water pump put in new thermostat and welded the exhaust pipe back on and replaced the cam sensors cause it kept dieing. It drove great for about a day or two and then started running rough and dieing and overheating. I flushed the radiator and took the thermostat out and it seemed to help for about 10 miles then it started knocking. Let it cool off checked the oil it says good started it back up the knocking was gone for about 20 min then started again and when it does this it wants to die just runs rough. I do here what sounds long clinging of a chain an I think I smell gas in the oil. It don't overheat anymore . My check engine light didn't work either does the whole center environment system but it did put out a code for 04blah blah the one for catalyst code. I don't want to run it cause I'm afraid it's gonna do serious damage but I don't know what's it will take to fix it. Cause I can't fix it all right now. Oh yeah and when I took the air cover off the top I noticed the motor was replaced so I don't even know for sure what year the motor came out of. So I think that's it. My husband died of cancer a few years ago and I got a figure out how to do this on my own so please don't tell me to take it to a mechanic.
