Elec assist steering

my 2011 came with no powe r steering. Message says service power steering. Seller had top of motor rebuilt and I don’t know if mechanics messed around with wiring in process. Junkyard sells assist motors for $30. I get a lot of junkyard parts so the process does not really concern me. What is the main failure point on these units for steering issues?
