There are grooves if you look at it it's more like a cap put the screwdriver in pop it off the hole is exposed to screw in the mounts. No need to cut with a knife. Not sure why the instructions say to cut. There are three little plastic pieces that stick off the edge of the circular piece that pops off almost looks like you're taking it part of model kit.</p></blockquote><p></p>
