Baffled By Brakes

Greetings,

Thanks anyone who takes the time to read this and reply.

Vehicle: 2006 Chevy Equinox 2WD

Just got done replacing the front brakes, the previous rotors felt pretty warped. I replaced front rotors, pads, hoses, and calipers, and bled both sides until fluid was clear. The brakes seem to operate fine, pedal is firm, and ABS is functioning. There are no dash lights or any other indicators.

Problem: The front rims and lugs are almost too hot to touch after a 5-10 mile drive. There doesn't appear to be any dragging. The wheels spin freely when jacked up. I've sped up to 5 mph, and put the vehicle in neutral, and it will actually roll for over a quarter mile before stopping. What could be going on?

Am I down to the m.cylinder? Are the pads that I put on just a bit too tight? I do with I had an IR thermo for more details, but...

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Don't really se a problem in that. My are hot even after 2mile trip.

To those that replied, you think that rims that are too hot to touch is normal after 5 miles of driving?! That doesn't seem reasonable to me.

I have this same topic open on another equinox forum, and the consensus currently points to this possibly being a problem with the hubs.

If there was a problem with the hubs/bearings I would think you would notice this while you have the vehicle jacked up and trying to wiggle the tire...

I would like to know if it was like this before the brake change. I don't see how anything could logically change from replacing the brakes. It's like washing your car or leaving it dirty. It will operate the same either way!

Is there anything different in the drivability?

There are many ways you can check for a bad HUB, its uncommon for a bad HUB not to make any noise.

A check you can make is by checking the temperature of the wheel hub after driving ten miles. The hub portion should be barely warm (the wheel itself will be hotter because of the brakes). The hub's job is to prevent friction with the body. If the hub is warm, friction is causing it to heat up, and you need new hubs.

IMO i would find it even more rare if both front HUBs are bad.
