Hello Everyone,

As title says, the the vehicle flashed the following codes:
- P0016, P0089, P228D - REDUCED ENGINE POWER - Service Stabilitrak
- These codes were experienced after running a faulty battery for a week or so, left battery charger on over night and next day these codes popped up.
- Car barely starts, runs horribly and stalls. Sounds like its out of time?
- Installed new battery
- Did compression test - roughly 120 psi across all cylinders (Does this idnicate its out of time???)
- Tested Fuel line pressure - prime pressure = 58 psi / Running pressure = 50 - 62 psi (fluctuates so rapidly mechanical gauge barely keeps up)

Unsure on how to proceed, was thinking about changing the (2X) High pressure fuel sensors or the High pressure fuel pump but need some guidance. I also have a decent code reader with live data.

Hate to tell you, don't waste money guessing, you need to have your timing fixed. All the codes you have are timing related.

I'm not a mechanic and I don't have all the fancy test tools, but this is my experience. I bought a 2015 Equinox, 140,000 miles on it and had the 0016, 0017, fuel pressure code, stabilitrac light and ABS lights on, and reduced power warning light on. Engine ran, but under reduced power.
I see 2 different questions on this post, one by Ejensen2 and one by AndrewCarney666 - so not sure how to answer - but that is why I'm giving my story on this.
I took my engine apart and replaced all timing chains, guides, oiler, both phasers and timing chain tensioner. Was very careful to get the chain marks on the right spots on all the chain sprockets. And changed the oil when done.
It wasn't fun - but I got thru all this repair for my first time on my first Equinox.
When all done, I was happy to say that ALL my lights and warnings went away. The engine ran just fine. The stabilitrac light went off during the first mile of my test drive. Later, after fixing (replacing) a bad TPMS sensor, the ABS light went off on a test drive. So all is good for me.
So, Ejensen2 - sounds like you have timing issues (already been said above) and
Andrewcarney - I must say that I appreciate your ambition to replace both fuel pumps, especially the one in the tank. But maybe you have timing issues again on your engine. Did you clear your codes after your pump replacements?
So, to both of you folks, I hope you can find the right things to fix or replace! Good luck to both of you.

Thanks for the responses! What's the best way to determine if the timing is off: Cylinder Leak down test??

Mr/MS ejensen2, I stated in my post that I'm not a trained mechanic. I was a little stupid to purchase this car knowing what I did. I took a chance on a nice car & my gamble turned out good for me so far. (I had a second car). The car was sitting in my garage a while over late fall/early winter (MN cold) as I worked on it. This gave me plenty of time to read posts & decide on what to do. The P0016 was a clue to me and it ran good before I parked it (Just had reduced power). So, I took it apart and could see that the main timing chain was loose (No broken chain guides). Bought Cloyes timing chain parts on Rock Auto and went at it. (replaced both chains while in there - almost replaced water pump, but decided not to because it looked very difficult to get to)
How many miles on your car? Sounds like it runs (but under reduced power).
Since I'm not a mechanic - it's best to see if other members on here with more knowledge can suggest to you what to do or test next. Again, good luck to you!

How is it today? Did it relearn and it got better after the battery?
