I just got a 2009 Equinox a few months ago and the seller told me the passenger airbags don't work but it should be an easy fix. Both the passenger light and the main airbag light on the dashboard are on, so I can't tell if it's both the driver and passenger airbags or just the passenger (the manual says the one on the dashboard is just for the driver's side but my mechanic said it could be an issue with the sensor causing both to appear). When my mechanic scanned the car it came up with code B0081-0F and I haven't been able to find anything too specific on that online, but it mostly seems to be related to the passenger airbag sensor. I found a lot about code B0081 but not for the sub-code 0F.
I was just wondering how to go about fixing this? My mechanic said I should be able to find the weight sensor for the passenger seat (he said it should be a pad of sorts) and if he takes the seat apart he can swap them out and recalibrate it, but he's not sure if that's the exact problem since everything we found online referring to that code was a bit vague/all over the place. I'm not sure how safe I feel driving it since we're not sure if the driver's side airbag even works, and the car itself has so many weird problems that he thinks that even though the code is for the passenger airbag, the driver's side might not be working either. I saw another thread on here that says there's also a passenger airbag light on both the dashboard and the center console, but I can't tell which is showing on the dash since they look the same. I'm mostly worried that the driver's side isn't working. He's also not sure if the weight sensor is even the part that's causing this, he said it seems likely but since we couldn't find much about that specific code (at least the sub-code) then replacing that part might not fix it.
I'm also a bit curious if it could be an issue with one of the computer chips in the car since I've been having weird issues with other sensors as well. My ABS/Stabilitrak aren't working because my right rear speed sensor is erratic, and I keep getting tire pressure warnings but every time I check them the pressure's fine. He said it's probably not one of the main chips and that it's all probably just because the car's old, but it's still weird to me that all the problems seem to relate to sensors. He disabled the ABS and my brakes have improved since then (the sensor itself was fine but something was off and it kept trying to enable then disable the ABS, which was causing weird braking issues - those seem fine now). I'll leave all that for a separate thread, but I figured I should mention it in case there's some weird connection between the problems I've been having.
