Valve stem seals can be the cause. Usually it's the piston rings that we see fail. The updated pistons and rings help combat that issue. 90% of the time we end up boring the cylinders 0.020 and using oversized updated design pistons to insure the best outcome
2012 Equinox LT
Backup camera intermittent function issue.
Always recognizes the reverse input from PRNDL.
Always triggers the screen on dash.
But only shows the actual rear view via screen 50% of time.
Sometimes starts and then goes dark, others starts dark then functions.
Tried a known...
50/50 unfortunately.
Intake on national back order I think.
Send me a picture of the shouts oun both and I can compare them to known good ones I have if you like
The leak down test can be tricky on these engines because of the valve overlap. If you have already purchased the cams, remove the timing chain and actuators and verify the keyway(s) have spun by comparing to the new camshafts. It's likely only one has failed. Then you can return the other.
I assume this engine was rebuilt because of a catastrophic end? Jumped timing, valves vs pistons and the pistons won? That's why you replaced valves?
About 1 in 10 of the 2.4 engines we rebud out here also experience damage to one or both camshafts. The "snout" or keyway end gets spun several...
A lot of the 2.4 engines we rebuild have damaged cat/cons. If owner is tight on funds (most are after agreeing to full engine rebuild) we use the Walker direct replacement. It seems to be the ONLY aftermarket unit that will function properly.
Even with the fresh bores, new piston rings, and...
When the mechanic did the compression test, was the vehicle at full temperature? The head gasket(s) on a warped cylinder head may be able to provide some seal at lower temp. This engine is known for needing cylinder heads machined straight again and new gaskets. Also is the cooling system full...
If no timing codes are present, I would ask you if the senoid on top of the cylinder head were replaced when engine was rebuilt and if so, are they GM units? There is one for intake and exhaust. Aftermarket units respond slower than GM equipment and once oil warms up they tend to cause iradic...
Did the the old timing chain guides fail? I ask because parts of the old guides could have gotten lodged in the oil pump pressure release valve. The n when it sits for a time, all the oil bleeds out and until pressure returns, you have chatter.
How much oil does your vehicle consume? If it's very high amount, that will eat cat/cons. Walker is the only aftermarket brand that will last for any decent amount of time on an engine with excessive oil burning. Most oil is synthetic now, so doesn't really smoke, just clogs up the cat/con in an...
To properly test the HPFP you will need a scanner that can show you the requested pressure at the rail vs the actual pressure. If there is a variance, the next step is to determine why. The pump is driven by the intake camshaft. If timing chain has slipped by a tooth, that would effect the...
Negron has it right. The sprocket has failed. Did the engine jump timing and lock stop? If so it's really important to inspect the camshaft snout also. You need to make sure it didn't rotate the keyway. It's becoming more and more common on the Equinox and Terrains we rebuild here
It sounds like that engine was way low on oil. Starved the VVT solenoids, stretched timing chain, bearings, etc.
I just bought 2 this week from customers that can't afford to repair.
Love these SUVs, but this oil consumption issue is frustrating.
I wonder if you have a "spun" snout on the camshaft. The keyway end piece is pressed on to shaft rather than being a single unit. It is common for an abrubt timing stoppage to cause the end to spin enough degrees to cause endless frustrating hours of on off reset try try again with same result...
When I am installing these heads, I set the actuator sprocket on camshaft out of vehicle and turn camshaft to approximately where it will need to be timed, then remove the sprockets until needed. If your head is already mounted to block, then turn crankshaft with balancer counterclockwise 45°...
Oh oh oh, I am sorry I misunderstood. Yes, these heads use a valve overlap system that eliminates need for EGR valve. There will be some load /opening there.
Yes you can close all the valves by removing the intake and exhaust camshafts. All camshaft caps at numbered and machined to be in a specific spot, so note the position for when reassembled. Once camshafts are out, all the valves will be closed if not bent. Stand the head on its side and spray...
Make sure the tensioner has been removed from the cylinder head.
Remove the chain guidez
Make sure the crankshaft keyway is NOT at top dead center (12 o'clock). Best to have it counterclockwise about 45°. This is so you can safely turn camshafts to correct positions without risk of valves...
