Back in the day ... I was able to find a GM kit for my 2012 Cruze. The kit came with all parts, wiring, and new switch. I'd suggest looking around to see if GM offers the same type of kit for your Equinox.

I would contact your dealership, as they MIGHT be kind enough to help you out since it happened 1 day after warranty expired. If not, try pulling the negative battery cable off for about 10-15 minutes, re-connecting it, and see what happens.
